Betty Blanton Obituary

BETTY HALFACRE-BLANTON, 86, passed away
peacefully on October 30, 2024, in Eustis, Florida, where she
resided for many years. She was born to Mattie B. Lawerence,
“Big Mama,” and Calvin Harries on March 5, 1938, in
Starkville, Mississippi. Betty carried her Southern roots and
warmth wherever she went, leaving an indelible mark on
everyone she met.
Betty was renowned for her incredible culinary talent, a gift
she shared generously with family, friends, and countless
patrons. Known as one of the most stellar cooks of her time;
she brought people together with her food, creating memories
and traditions that spanned generations. Her kitchen was a
place of magic where she crafted meals with love, creating
dishes that nourished both body and soul. From her famous
pies to her comforting homemade dinners, Betty’s food was a
true expression of her love for family and friends. Her dishes,
much like her spirit, were full of heart and soul, and she took
pride in making every meal a special occasion. Betty even
opened her own beloved restaurant, Betty’s Fine Food, in East
St. Louis, where her recipes and hospitality became legendary.
Her family will forever cherish the memories of her gentle
touch, wise words, and unforgettable meals. Beyond her
kitchen, Betty’s warmth, generosity, and zest for life touched
all who knew her.

Betty leaves behind her beautiful children, Jerome McGee,
the late Simp Jr. Halfacre, Mattie Mae Moore, the late Eddie
Halfacre, Donna Sceal, Calvin Sr., Quliac Halfacre, Sheila
Ann Dancy, the late Shirley Ann Halfacre, and Marneka
