A TIME TO BE BORN: Joseph Herbert Heflin, Jr., was born to proud parents Joseph Herbert Heflin, Sr. and Christine Faison Heflin on January 4, 1956.

A TIME TO BE BORN AGAIN: Joseph joined Ramah Baptist Church of Belleview, Florida, at an early age under Pastor Paul C. Ellison, which he spoke of as one of his proudest moments in his life.

A TIME TO STUDY: Joseph attended Marion County public schools, graduating from Lake Weir High School; then on  to Central Florida Community. He pursued his passion for basketball with a basketball scholarship at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

A TIME TO SERVE: Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy for eight years.

A TIME TO WORK: Joseph enjoyed many years flying throughout the states and a few times on foreign lands, gathering sky miles with Asset Protection and Vance, providing personal protection to company executives. He enjoyed several jobs in between, but he felt at home at Dillards of Ocala, Florida the last 18 years, before retiring on December 6, 2025.

A TIME TO LOVE: Joseph married his wife Windy in 2005. He would often say, “It took me 500 years to find my Guinevere.” They were true to the vows to love and to cherish, in  sickness and in health until death for 21 God blessed years.

A TIME TO REST: Joseph took his rest on May 23, 2026, in Tampa, Florida. Joseph leaves to treasure his memories: a devoted wife of 21 years, Windy Heflin, a daughter, Nateria Heflin, other children: Shonna Ortiz (Manuel), Shanese Graham, Steve McCormick, Jr., and Shema Freeman; three sisters: Pamela Gould (Robert), Betty Jo Thomas (Trini), and Givana Heflin; one brother-in- law, Issac Mayes (Patricia); three aunts: Elizabeth  Mathis, Betty Ruth Grazes and Evelyn Ann Walton; one uncle, McCoy Maxwell; one niece, and four nephews. He had a host of  grand nieces and nephews, gifted grandchildren, great-grand children. He also had many sorrowing cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Christine Heflin; and his brother, Bernard Heflin.
