Born in Boyd (Perry), FL, and later moved with her parents and siblings to Ocala, FL. She graduated from Howard High School in 1958. Queen was a devoted mother of five children and later in life added another son. She married her greatest love, James C. Sims, on May 28, 2001. Together, they shared over 25 years of love and support.
She was a lifelong member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, serving in several capacities, including the Trustee Board, the Usher Board, the Culinary Committee, and the Mamye Preye Women’s Missionary Society. She began her career very early, working in various industries. Queen was a dedicated employee of Signature Brands (Pioneer Products) and retired after 36 years of service.
She adored spending time with her family, cooking, and entertaining. Queen was also affectionately known as ‘Sally’ and ‘The Candy Lady,’ keeping her neighborhood children filled with snacks and treats. She was a Platinum VIP ocean cruiser, often unwinding at the casino, winning big on the penny slots. She enjoyed various ports of call and land destinations. Her other hobbies included vegetable gardening, home canning, crocheting, collecting wind chimes during her travels, and supporting the Florida Public Education System through Florida Lottery scratch-offs and Pick-3. Queen left a lasting impression on everyone she met through love, laughter, and soulful meals.
