Rutha “Mae” Thigpen was born on December 21, 1950, in Tampa, Florida, to Bessie Mae McNeal. She moved to Okahumpka, Florida, at an early age and attended Lake County public schools. There, she would meet and marry Frank James Thigpen. Early in life, she moved on in the working industry, and served as a housekeeper for many years. She was introduced to Christ as a young girl and accepted God as her Lord and personal Savior. She was a loving and kind-hearted person who had a smile on her face most of the time. When asked how she was doing, she would always reply by saying “Hanging in there by the grace of God!’ She loved giving compliments to others and enjoyed spending time with her family. Rutha “Mae” transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Advent Health with her family by her side.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Mae; son, Frank James Thigpen, Jr.; daughter, Barbara Ann Thigpen; sister, Charlie Mae Rivers; brother, Rudolph McNeal; and grandson, Devonte Allen.
Left to cherish her memory are: her loving daughters, Lakisha Thigpen of Miami, FL, Lawander Thigpen of Orlando, FL, Louise Thigpen of Orlando, FL, and Folukey Thigpen of Orlando, FL; two bonus daughters, Kathy Pace of Gainesville, FL, and Gloria “Glo” Ousley of Orlando, FL; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other close family, and friends.
