Emmery Leroy Adkins name was changed "Shakil Malik Shabazz" born on August 28, 1972, to Leroy Adkins Sr. and Julia Brown, Walter Brown. He attended public schools in Marion County. He was blessed with one daughter, Jevondia Brown of Ocala, Florida.

He leaves to cherish his memories four brothers, Juan (Sharon) Council, Michael (Voncea) Council, Ocala, FL; Allison Adkins, Reddick, FL; Leroy Adkins, Jr, Gainesville, FL; four sisters, Barbara Nettles of Williston, FL, Matilda Council of Ocala, FL, Belinda Adkins and La-Faye Adkins of Gainesville, FL. One special niece, M'Terriana Council, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
